Boulder County, CO
The owners of the "Western Ranch" had dreamed of creating a compound that emulated a true Colorado Ranch. They came to Mark with the idea of designing a homestead that looked as though it was a house that had grown over time, thus the use of multiple materials and massing. Deep porches and the cut roof forms lend an air of historicism, while meeting all of today's necessities. Inside, the house is detailed with heavy timber beams, wood floors, large scale detailing, and intricate touches to emulate the style of a rugged working ranch. The home was "built green" and is energy efficient, resulting in a house filled with all the modern amenities and comforts; while retaining an atmosphere of a classic and well-built ranch home. In addition to the main house, Mark also designed a barn and various out-buildings including a office and stable.
