The owners relocated to Boulder, CO from Chicago. After a frustrating search for a home they could call their own, they realized that they would need to have a home designed to meet their needs. While renting, they had zeroed in on a lot with a spectacular view in an older suburban neighborhood. The lot posed some difficult issues. There was a restrictive height covenant of 25 feet and the access to the property was from below. How do you design a home large enough to accommodate a family of five and visiting relatives when you can only be one story they asked themselves? The owners turned to Mark Queripel for the answer.
Working with the lots unique restrictions as a basis for a design, rather than a problem, Terra Verde developed a design which has a strong corner entry element and a serpentine driveway that allowed the design to accommodate walk-out from the lower level making that space as livable and light as the main level. The house is warm and inviting, the open floor plan and large arched windows in the main living spaces create a direct connection to the beautiful outdoor spaces while filling the house with light and fresh air. The owners love their home as do all their visitors. The house has been certified “Built Green” and is Energy Star rated.
